Guru Gangeshwar Bhuramal: Nishulk Netra Chikitsa Sewa Sansthan is a charity eye hospital that has been established by the ashram and has been
providing the community and surrounding area with excellent eye care for 85 years. It’s Fully Renovated few years back with all state of art machines needed for
checking & operating. The hospital was founded due to the significant amount of eye disease prevalent in India combined with poor access to quality eye care.
Cataracts are the number one cause of blindness in India. Cataracts are a
treatable form of blindness, but due to poor access to care it remains a significant cause of blindness. The hospital’s mission is to provide low cost eye care
to the community in order to fix this disparity. The doctors at the hospital perform over 700 surgeries per year, all at minimal cost to the patient.
The ashram provides transportation, meals and an overnight stay when having an operation. The hospital features an exam room with slit lamp,
operating theater with modern equipment, 20 beds for overnight stays, and a pharmacy offering commonly prescribed ocular medications at low cost to the patient.
In addition to medical conditions, the hospital also provides vision examinations and glasses at low costs.
Eyes-Medical Camps are organized from time to time for poor people and free opticals, medicines, food, fruit and milk etc. are provided to them.
Donors are welcome to cooperate for this noble cause.
Eye Conditions treated
Cataract : Motiabind ( मोतिया बिन्द ) –cataract is the number one cause of preventable blindness in India. This can be treated by the doctors at the ashram.
Over time the eye’s natural lens starts to become cloudy and affect vision. When vision is affected, surgery is recommended to remove the cataract.
A new lens is implanted inside the eye. The lenses used are state of the art and are designed to give the patients the best vision after surgery.
Cataract surgery is performed using the most current techniques. This includes manual small incision suture-less cataracts as well as surgery performed
using advanced phacoemulsification which allows for quicker healing. Click here for more information
Diabetic Eye Disease – Patients with diabetes are recommended to have their eyes checked for signs of disease. When caught early, patients can be referred
for necessary treatment to prevent further vision loss.
Glaucoma – Glaucoma is a disease that leads to damage to the optic nerve. This is most commonly due to a pressure inside the eye that is too high.
This initially causes loss of peripheral vision and can lead to total blindness if left untreated. Treatment usually begins with eye drops. Sometimes eye drops
are not enough to lower the pressure and surgery is required. Glaucoma surgery is performed at the ashram in these severe cases. Trabeculectomy surgery involves
creating a drain for fluid in the eye to decrease the pressure. Trabeculectomy surgery is done at a cost of 400 rupees to the patient.
Entropion – This is a problem where the eyelid turns inwards. This can cause scarring to the cornea and permanent vision loss. Surgery is performed in
order to prevent this from occurring. Entropion surgery is performed at a cost of 200 rupees to the patient.
Ectropion – This is a problem where the eyelid turns outwards. This leads to excessive tearing, red eyes, and discomfort. Surgery is performed in order to relive these symptoms.
Pterygium – This is a condition where there is a growth onto the front of the eye. This is removed surgically if it is causing the patient discomfort.
Conjunctivitis – This is a common condition that may present with itching, burning, tearing, pain or discharge. This can be due to allergies, viruses and bacteria.
The doctor will determine the cause and prescribe the necessary treatment.
Dry Eyes – This is a very common condition that may present with tearing, dry feeling, foreign body sensation, occasional blurred vision.
The doctor will evaluate you to see if you have this condition and would benefit from treatment.
Corneal Infections – These present with significant pain, redness, and discharge and require prompt treatment in order to prevent permanent damage.
The doctors are skilled at diagnosing and treating all types of corneal infections.
