SHIV TATTVA

Swamiji spoke about the PRINCIPLE of "SHIV" on this day.

A jeevatma nurtures a wish in his heart to know Lord Shiva and also to receive His blessings.
Until and unless we are blessed by Lord Shiva, we have to be born again and again.

The Vedas describe Shiva in both His forms-
  • Calm and Quiet (Somya)
  • Terrible and Angry (Rudra)

  • In the mantra from Yajur Ved (16-13), there is a reference to Him as Rudra and His blessings are sought with the following words--

"Hey Shastraaksh (thousand- eyed one).Hey, the one with 1000 arrows, Please bless us with your kind heart without having to use your bow and arrows."

Lord Shiva sees everything with a thousand eyes and has a quiver of 1000 arrows and punishes the sinners and asuras (Those with demonic traits).

We may hide our bad deeds from the world but cannot hide anything from the thousand- eyed SHIVA.

For our welfare, Lord Shiva with his arrows pierces the FRUIT OF OUR KARMAS so that we can enjoy both the good and the bad karmas.

In the above Vedic mantra, the devotee pleads to Lord Shiva to refrain from using His bow & arrows and to have pity and release him from the cycle of birth and death.

In Yajur Ved (16-41), there is a beautiful mantra-

Nama Shambhavaya Cha Mayobhavaya Cha Namah Shankaraya Cha
Mayaskraya Cha Namah Shivayah Cha Shivataray Cha

By merely reciting this mantra again and again, we can make our mind peaceful, our body healthy and gain wealth quite easily.
